Unit 2 易混詞語辨析

1. either；each；every

either表示“每個”，是指“兩者之一”。如：There are many trees on either side of the river. 在河的兩旁都種有許多樹。

each和every這兩個詞也都有“每個”的意義。each強調“各別；各個”，而every 強調“全部；都”。如：He gave each boy an apple. 他給每個男孩一個蘋果。The sun shines every day. 每天都是陽光燦爛。

另外，every只能用作形容詞, 因此只有在與名詞連用或構成複合詞時, 才能用作主語或賓語；而each可用作形容詞, 也可用作代詞, 直接作主語或賓語。 如: Each of them wants to try.他們每人都想試一試。

2．except；besides

except意爲“除……之外（不再有）”， 而besides意爲“除……之外（還有）”。如：We all agreed except Tom. 除湯姆之外，我們都同意。（除了湯姆外，其他人都同意）We all agreed besides him. 除他同意之外，我們也都同意。（不僅他同意，其他人也同意）

3．surprise；amaze

surprise和amaze作動詞，都有“使吃驚”的意思。surprise 是通用詞，它的含義是使人一愣。表示“出乎意外地驚異”。 如: We were surprised at finding the house empty. 我們驚訝地發現房子是空的。

amaze 所表示的吃驚中包含着使人迷惑不解、困窘或驚疑不定。如：Scientists have been amazed to find that it can cut through the hardest rock with great ease. 科學家們驚詫地發現，它可以輕而易舉地鑽穿最堅硬的岩石。

4．pay for；cost；spend；take

pay for意爲“爲……付錢”。如：He paid ￡5 for the book. 他買這本書花了五英鎊。

cost表示“花費(金錢, 時間)”，主語必須是物。如：That suit costs me ￡6. 那件上衣花掉我6英鎊。

spend表示“花費”，主語必須是人，可以用指花費錢、時間、精力等。其後接on sth.或（in）doing sth.。如：He spent a lot of money on books. 他花了許多錢買書。

take表示“花費（錢或時間）”，主語應是不定式，可以用it作形式主語代替。如：It takes a lot of money to buy a house. 買一所房子要花一大筆錢。

1. ask sb. for sth. 向某人要求某事

When I have difficulty with math, I always ask Wu Dong for help. 當我在數學上有困難時，我總是請吳東幫助。

2. in style 流行；時髦

I find the red skirt is in style this summer. 我發現今年夏天紅裙子很流行。

3. find out 查明；弄清楚

Did you ever find out why he left his last job? 你有沒有弄清楚他爲什麼辭去他最後的工作？

4. everyone ... except 除了……都

Everyone in my family likes music except my father. 我家裏人人喜歡音樂，就是我爸爸不喜歡。

5. a /the/ problem with sth. 在……方面有問題

We got a problem with the car. 我們的汽車出問題了。

6. be angry with sb. 對某人生氣

As my homework wasn't finished, the teacher was angry with me. 因爲我的家庭作業沒有完成，老師對我很生氣。

7. get on well with sth. / sb. 在……方面進展好；與某人相處好

Are you getting on well with your studies? 你的學習情況怎樣？

I am getting on well with my classmates. 我跟我的同班同學相處得很好。

8. have a fight with sb. 跟某人打架

Yesterday I had a fight with my brother. 昨天我跟我的哥哥打了一架。

9. give sb. advice 給某人提出建議(忠告)

I want to get a job in a restaurant. Would you please give me some advice? 我想在一家飯店找份工作，請你給我提些建議好嗎？

10. under pressure 承受壓力

It's wrong for children to stay under too much pressure. 讓孩子們承受太多的壓力是不對的。

11. ...把……與……相比

His family is rich. We can't compare our family with his. 他家很富，我們家不可能與他家相比。

12. by oneself 獨自；獨立

Can he do it all by himself？他能獨自一個人做這事嗎？
