1.【問】There are a lot of red-crowned cranes in other parts of the world.這句中的there be和other應該怎樣用?

【答】there be意爲"有",表示存在,即某地有某人或某物。there be之後接可數名詞單數或不可數名詞時,用there is;there be之後接可數名詞複數時,用there are。如:There is a book on the desk. There is some milk in the glass. There are many trees on the hill. other意爲"另外的、別的"。如:Where's my other glove? 我的另一隻手套在哪兒?

注意:指兩個中的"另一個"用"the other"。如:I have two pens. One is black, and the other is green. 但指不定數目中的"另一個"應用"another"。 如:This glass is broken. Get me another. 這個杯子壞了, 給我拿另一個來。(許多杯子中的一個)

2.【問】爲什麼"My cousin finishes school next month."這句中的時間狀語是表示將來的時間,而動詞卻用的是一般現在時呢?

【答】在英語中,可以用一般現在時表示將來要發生的動作。如:The TV play starts at 8:00. 電視劇將在八點開始。

3.【問】爲什麼"He is not going camping next week because he is studying for exams."這句中的時間狀語是表示將來的時間,而動詞用的卻是現在進行時呢?

【答】在英語中,除了用一般將來時表示將來的動作以外,還可以用現在進行時表示。如:She is coming. 她要來了。

4.【問】He also told us to walk slowly so that we do not frighten the birds. 這句中so that是什麼意思,應如何使用?它與有何區別?

【答】so that意爲"爲了、以便、使得",用來表示目的。如:Be quiet so that he can sleep. 安靜些,好使他能睡覺。

意爲"如此......以致於",用來表示結果。如:It is so quiet in the room that you can hear the drop of a pin. 房間裏靜得連(地上)掉根針都能聽見。

5.【問】把"I think it is important that I do something to protect birds."這句改爲"I think it important for me to do something to protect birds."可以嗎?

【答】可以。後一句中it是形式賓語,代替後面的不定式。如:I think it necessary for us to learn English well. 我認爲我們學好英語是很有必要的。
