why is goal-setting important? because goals can help you do and experience every meaningful thing you hope for in life. instead of letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.

successful people have visions of what their life should be and they set lots of goals, both sbort-term and long-range, to help them realize the visions. by setting goals you are taking control of your life. it is like having a map to show where you want to go. a driver with an aim arrives at the destination without any waste of time or wrong turns.

on the contrary, a driver with no aim drives aimlessly around, never getting anywhere and just using up gas and oil. winners in life set goals and follow through on them. they decide what they want and then get there by making plans and setting goals.

goals ara not difficult to set and they are not difficult to reach. it is up to you to find out what your goals, ideals and visions really are. with a clear direction, and with certain plans, you will straightly get what you want.

without a goal, you have to live a passive life. you do not know where to go, what you want and why you are listless. then your life be comes dull and meaningless just like the dead water in a muddy lake.

In the future days, I must study with all my heart and learn as more as possible. So that I can store something for the future.

Nowadays most people go to university not only to learn new knowledge but to get a degree. Many of them no longer care about what they really learn in university, they care more about whether they will get the degree or not. They regard the degree as a golden key to a better jobs or higher salaries. For them, nothing is more important than a degree in university. In my point of view, I cannot agree to this idea.

In the first place, degree is nothing but a paper that can prove you have finished your courses. Most students don’t realize what helps them to find a good job is what they really learn from university, the professional course, and the social skills and so on. In addition, having certificates is more important than having a degree. For instance, if you are looking for a translation job, you certainly need a CET-4 or CET-6 certificate. if you want to be a high school teacher, you need more certificate to prove yourself that you are fit for this job, such as TEM-8 and teacher certificate which is not a degree can show your abilities.

In the second place, having a good personal relationship is much nicer than having a degree. In the social net, you have more friends means you have more choices. For example, many students do not choose the right major in university because their parents chose for them, so that they may not work hard. In that case, this kind of students should spend more time to learn what they are really interested in and make more friends. It’s much better than they spend the whole time to learn the major which they don’t like at all.

To sum up, students should not care too much about their degree, and they should focus on what is truly needed for their future life. The goal of university education is not just to get a degree, but the really useful knowledge and practical experience.

Goal Setting Is Important

“Living without an aim is like sailing without a compass.” This philosophical wisdom by John Ruskin, one of the greatest British writers, tells us that goal setting is extremely important in life.

Why is goal setting so important? The main importance of goal setting is that it provides us with direction and purpose. When we have goals, we know what we want to achieve so that we can focus our mindson a single worthwhile target and avoid getting distracted easily. Personal goal setting also provides us with motivation to achieve what we want to achieve.

Goal setting is of especial significance for today’s students. A study reveals that when students set goals, they learn the importance of taking responsibility, of minimizing excuses and of helping others. Goal setting is a lifelong skill that first helps students succeed in school and then later in life.

The Importance of Goal

There is no denying that setting a goal is very important. We find that successful people are always those having and achieving their goals. They set goals, short-term or long-run, to help realize their visions.

Why is goal-setting important? By setting goals you are taking control of the tempo of your life. It is having a map to guide you to where you want to head for. With a clear direction, and with certain plans, you will straightly get what you want. On the contrary, without a goal ,you will live a wandering life. You do not know where to go, what you want and why you are listless. Then your life becomes dull and meaningles just like the dead water in a muddy lake.

From my point of view, goals are not difficult to set and realize. First, you should make clear what you really want, which constitutes your goals. Then you make detailed palans and follow the through, as many winners do.

Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes towrite a short essay entitled Live with a Goal bycommenting on the French writer AlexanderDumas, remark,“Living without an aim is like sailing without a compass.” You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

範文:

Live with a Goal

According to the French writer Alexander Dumas, living without an aim is like sailing without acompass. It signifies that without a goal, one wouldlive a passive life just like the dead water in amuddy lake.

Frankly speaking, to live with a goal is of tremendous significance to one’ s life. For onething, a proper aim helps foster the realization of the visions, as people are better motivatedwhen they want to attain the goal they set for themselves and have a sense of fulfillmentwhen they succeed. For another, by setting goals one could take good control of his/her life, without wasting time or energy being confused about what to do. With a clear direction andcertain plans, one will readily get what he/she wants.

Consequently, we could draw the conclusion that we should live with a target, as a goal—oriented life is an active way of living. Without a clear purpose, we might feel at sea, squandering our time and opportunities.

Pete Rose, the famous baseball player, whom I have never met, taught me something so valuable that changed my life. Pete was being interviewed in spring training the year he was about to break Ty Cobb‘s all time hits record. One reporter blurted out, "Pete, you only need 78 hits to break the record. How many at-bats do you think you‘ll need to get the 78 hits?" Without hesitation, Pete just stared at the reporter and very matter-of-factly said, "78." The reporter yelled back, "Ah, come on Pete, you don‘t expect to get 78 hits in 78 at-bats, do you?"Mr. Rose calmly shared his philosophy with the throngs of reporters who were anxiously awaiting his reply to this seemingly boastful claim. "Every time I step up to the plate, I expect to get a hit! If I don‘t expect to get a hit, I have no right to step in the batter‘s box in the first place!" "If I go up hoping to get a hit," he continued, "then I probably don‘t have a prayer of getting a hit. It is positive expectation that has gotten me all of the hits in the first place."

When I thought about Pete Rose‘s philosophy and how it applied to everyday life, I felt a little embarrassed. As a business person, I was hoping to make my sales quotas. As a father, I was hoping to be a good dad. As a married man, I was hoping to be a good husband. The truth was that I was an adequate salesperson, I was not so bad of a father, and I was an okay husband. I immediately decided that being okay was not enough! I wanted to be a great salesperson, a great father and a great husband. I changed my attitude to one of positive expectation, and the results were amazing. I was fortunate enough to win a few sales trips, I won Coach of the Year in my son‘s baseball league, and I share a loving relationship with my wife, Karen, with whom I expect to be married to for the rest of my life! Thanks, Mr. Rose!
